a short love affair (a fiction)

She was a lovely lady amidst the turmoil in the hospital. Carefully dressed and tucked at the corner of the ward, she flickers her cellphone from time to time, checking for a reply.

She stared at the cellphone, the LCD light beckoning for her dark mood -- probably from lack of new inbox message. The blue reflection in her face made her even more beautiful. She brought her face to look in his direction.

He was two seats away. He was silently staring at her.

She smiled as if seeing him for the first time. He smiled back like he just did four minutes ago. His mind was racing with his heart beat -- she's probably asking for his attention. She would resume staring at the phone again, and would wear the same worried look.

He waited for a minute to compose himself. When he was about to say something to her, his face changed into an unreadable expression, and he would stare at her again like 5 minutes ago.

They were patients who are in love, and they both have a memory of 5 minutes.
