Beach Girl - Drawing

Just a doodle in the office while waiting for the brain to explode in debugging.

The boss walked inside the office -- seeing my non-working act, he stared at the drawing and suavely said "Wish got a girl like that" -- then walked away as if nothing happened.

Dead Man Crying (A fiction)

"I wonder if you will slowly rot to dead.

If your decaying heart would stench while you talk

Smelling wounded flesh

a walking catacomb

a dead man walking"

It was the last poetry John read after deciding to let go of a romance rooted back in 1st year high school. His throat tightened from guilt and frustration. The veins in his eyes suddenly pumped warm red blood, suggesting an outburst of tears later on.

Slowly, he folded the once crumpled paper -- with blood stains embracing the dirtiness of it-- and tacked it inside his breast pocket. He stood up from the concrete street soaked red blood.

There were commotions as he passed by the busy paramedics who weren't minding his presence.

He bumped everyone he passed, and they were staring at him and the blood stains. He ignored them all.

A hand took his shoulder too strong for him to ignore. "Son where are you going? You haven't told us what happened" demanded the police officer who caught him.

"She saved my life" John muttered, then he broke up into tears.
"She saved my life, even when I was dead"

-- and his cries were drowned by the siren who came to rescue too late.

Love, Reincarnation and X Files

"Have you ever wondered why so many married couples look so alike." Dana said, as she sorts the folder lying messily on the table. Mulder, jerking away from her sudden motion, smoothly said "Incest?"

"Mulder, your good sense of humor never cease to impress me" She slammed the folders against her partner's chest. Mulder clutched all folders at once: "Ok. So what's your scientific theory behind it?"

"Reincarnation" Dana said as she walks away leaving Mulder smiling with disbelief. It took Mulder a few seconds of thinking before he decided to get up from his seat to follow the smartly walking woman in front of him.

Dana began speaking the moment Mulder caught up. "What if our concept of reincarnation is wrong? What if people can be reincarnated at the same time - meaning the same person living more than one life at a given time? Then meeting themselves, loving themselves then ending up getting married with themselves"

"Wait a minute" Mulder suddenly said, stopping they're walk. Dana was very much delighted with the partner's reaction. She stopped just a few inches away from their personal space.

"After incestious thoughts, now you're going to narcissism? I think aliens are better reasons for your romantic viewpoints." Mulder chuckled; then seeing Dana's unamused face retorted back with a serious comment "Considering that you're right. Then your theory pretty much explains same sex marriage. I mean somehow one might be reincarnated again with the same gender.. Expanding your theory,..well, It might get nasty as other can be reincarnated as animals the way Zen views perceived it.... Now that's beastiality"

Mulder was waiting for an opposite reaction but Dana formed her mouth into a smile. "You remind me of me sometimes." She was moving slowly towards Mulder taking one word at a time. When she was just a few inches away, she stopped and tapped Mulder's chest strongly with the folder she was holding.

"Too bad I don't like dumb ass that much." then she walked away leaving Mulder lost in thoughts and silently staring.

My Article Published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer

A few months ago, I emailed an article for the 100kwentongpeyups article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Two days after that, I got a reply confirming that my email reached the recipient -- but nothing more than that; Howeve today as I checked my friendster account, an old friend from College sent me the following messages:

Hi, kuya ryan!
kumusta na? nabasa namin dito sa sand
ung article mo sa inquirer. hehe. natuwa kami.
ingat & God bless sa buong family mo :)

I stared at the message with disbelief thinking 'How come I'm always the last one to know ?' and the feeling was suddenly replaced with the thought that my work got published. I told Jody "YEHEY, napublish work ko sa Inquirer"

Then she asked the dreaded question "Yehey! Anong issue?"

Gulp, I don't know.

So we bought the current Inquirer issue and found nothing about UP. "Baka weekend issue", Jody said. Then she pointed out that our old professor friend kept on pointing out that Jajas was my Thesis as a joke. That was last week when we went to UP to attend a friends' wedding. He must've read the article, she added.

So here I am searching the net for back issues...sigh. Help. :)

-----------
The article I submitted was an old blog I wrote last year. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Blast from the Fast

I took a 3-day leave from work to attend a friend's wedding in UP. It was also a chance to go back and relive the college years. Jody and I had lots of places in mind to go to: Coffee in Main Lib, Tapsilog in Rodic's, Fried Chicken in Lutong Bahay and Sunken Garden -- The best part is that we got to show special places to our son.

I've collected bits and pieces of our travel story here. Enjoy!

Ugly Scary

While taking a stroll, reminiscing with Jody and Jajas in UP Diliman, our son pointed out his notion of having "ugly" equated to "scary". He said "pag pangit matatakot ako". Jody corrected him by saying that being scared to ugly people -- no matter how ugly they can get -- is a very mean act. I even added that instead of being scared, one should learn to love them; then I whispered "minahal ka nga namin anak"

Jody overhearing what I said, responded with an outcry "Dada ang mean mean mo!"

Lutong Bahay

The old Ate from the lutong bahay recognized us, and the first thing she said was "Wow, may anak na kayo!". After all these years, I never thought she knew us; and after taking my order she teased "So tatlo ng rice?" We had a good cheap meal just like those college years.

Old Age

The reminiscing was great, but I was constantly reminded that I was older that I thought I was. I accidentally injured my back, probably from the cold or from the heavy baggage; so instead of visiting more places after the wedding, we were stuck in the hotel watching American Idol. Jas got bored accompanying my bed rest.

---

Nevertheless, it was a great visit to memory lane. The place and the people seemed utterly familiar; and I can hardly wait for the next visit, hoping that someone we know will get married sooner than expected :)

Missing Jajas

I never thought that a silly littly voice saying "I miss my dada" would want me to jump on the next trip to Tarlac -- if only I wasn't in the office. Jas apparently composed a song with the lyrics "I miss my dada...Got no dada..i love my dada", which, if I were to judge, could be a no.1 billboard hit. I haven't heard him sing the song yet, but he told me the lyrics nevertheless yesterday when he called me and I missed him more. I miss washing his pwet after the popo, I miss brushing his teeth, I miss our family McDo nights, I miss his presence while I tell him stories...

I miss my Jajas. Now that I'm writing it after a cold rain outside, I miss him even more. (hay buhay mahanap ngang mushy song na bluer than blue )

X-Files Poster Modification

Jody seemed dismayed with the Polish poster of X-Files, so she asked me to modify her a new one. We made fun with the movie line though "We're freezing to death!"

I made this poster, but then again, trust no one. Enjoy!

The Fatherhood Game

I asked my father last night how old he is and with a bit of dignified-yet-shaken voice he responded with a two-digit number over a little half of a century. Then seeing my asking face, he quickened and let go of his guard saying "Matanda na.. matanda na.."

I said that he is younger than what he thought he was, winning the argument by emphasizing that he still plays PC game like young people do. He smiled and our conversation drifted to game consoles, we even agreed that WII is a good tool for exercise.

A month ago, I would have been annoyed with the topic. Suddenly after all those years, my father became involved with 3D gaming. He wasn't acting his age, I always said to myself.

But then I realized suddenly that my father is happy with his virtual games. In this world, he can be a strong soldier capable of dodging bullets, he can be a super agent saving the world with just a knife and a night vision; He can escape the physical limitations of old age.

I guess I just need to buy a multiplayer game then; maybe he can use some help in saving the world one mouse click at a time.

my IRON MAN DRAWING

I really enjoyed the movie to the point of doing my own drawing. This took me almost an hour to make using Wacom and Photoshop. Enjoy!

I'll definitely watch the movie again and again and....

Early Morning Waiting for the Rain

The thunder strucked just outside my window on a 2am morning. It's a shout of warning for the rain that will fall in a few moment. The tricycle outside made a run against the rumbling of the sky, afraid from the falling clouds.

I was silently waiting for the rain and the thunder and the lightning.
It will soon take my lonely masked face to the dreamland.

The rain for the tears, the thunder for the mumble, and the dark sky for my mood.

The Silent Sanctuary

She grouped the rolled tissue on the table while staring at the little boy just a few inches away from her. The boy was chewing fast a mouthful of burger eager to get rid of the food; his playmates noisily ran in the background in their make-believe world.

She nodded, and the boy quickly swallowed in response, then quickly joined the children playing at the playhouse.

This was her moment for herself: A short time to be alone so she shot her eyes closed and blocked the sounds.

She drifted into the memories of silent pleasures. She was seating on a green lawn in front of her house, holding the grasses under her palms. The wind was gently stroking her hair and the Sun was greeting her face with warmth.

She was about to get up when a yell took her back to reality. Her boy came running with tears streaming on his floppy cheeks. His head was marked with bruises and he was pointing to the spot where he fell.

She calmed his son, soothing words she got from the peaceful place in her mind; and decided that she take her son with her next time.

Awkward Silence

Awkward Silence

We stared with our peripheral vision
We succumbed on sad serious faces
We saw everything but not each other
Yet we actedas if we were watching one another

I said "Tara, punta na tayo" with a pretentious smile
She said "Tara", with the equivalent response
I slowly touched her palms as we walked
and carefully suggested my apology
she slid her fingers inside mine
and we clasped our hand
talking silent touches

We didn't speak
and it made all the difference
