I asked my father last night how old he is and with a bit of dignified-yet-shaken voice he responded with a two-digit number over a little half of a century. Then seeing my asking face, he quickened and let go of his guard saying "Matanda na.. matanda na.."
I said that he is younger than what he thought he was, winning the argument by emphasizing that he still plays PC game like young people do. He smiled and our conversation drifted to game consoles, we even agreed that WII is a good tool for exercise.
A month ago, I would have been annoyed with the topic. Suddenly after all those years, my father became involved with 3D gaming. He wasn't acting his age, I always said to myself.
But then I realized suddenly that my father is happy with his virtual games. In this world, he can be a strong soldier capable of dodging bullets, he can be a super agent saving the world with just a knife and a night vision; He can escape the physical limitations of old age.
I guess I just need to buy a multiplayer game then; maybe he can use some help in saving the world one mouse click at a time.
