Blast from the Fast

I took a 3-day leave from work to attend a friend's wedding in UP. It was also a chance to go back and relive the college years. Jody and I had lots of places in mind to go to: Coffee in Main Lib, Tapsilog in Rodic's, Fried Chicken in Lutong Bahay and Sunken Garden -- The best part is that we got to show special places to our son.

I've collected bits and pieces of our travel story here. Enjoy!

Ugly Scary

While taking a stroll, reminiscing with Jody and Jajas in UP Diliman, our son pointed out his notion of having "ugly" equated to "scary". He said "pag pangit matatakot ako". Jody corrected him by saying that being scared to ugly people -- no matter how ugly they can get -- is a very mean act. I even added that instead of being scared, one should learn to love them; then I whispered "minahal ka nga namin anak"

Jody overhearing what I said, responded with an outcry "Dada ang mean mean mo!"

Lutong Bahay

The old Ate from the lutong bahay recognized us, and the first thing she said was "Wow, may anak na kayo!". After all these years, I never thought she knew us; and after taking my order she teased "So tatlo ng rice?" We had a good cheap meal just like those college years.

Old Age

The reminiscing was great, but I was constantly reminded that I was older that I thought I was. I accidentally injured my back, probably from the cold or from the heavy baggage; so instead of visiting more places after the wedding, we were stuck in the hotel watching American Idol. Jas got bored accompanying my bed rest.

---

Nevertheless, it was a great visit to memory lane. The place and the people seemed utterly familiar; and I can hardly wait for the next visit, hoping that someone we know will get married sooner than expected :)
